Take I-15 south from Idaho Falls. Get off the interstate at the rest area just after mile marker 102.

This is a short nature trail type path just off the freeway south of Idaho Falls. The hike is about a mile long and is paved. Total elevation gain is 50 feet.

Closed during the winter. No animals are allowed. There is a bathroom with drinking water at the trailhead.

There is also a similar trail on the northbound side of the freeway.

Hiking & Backpacking Reviews for Hell's Half Acre Southbound Rest Stop Idaho
This hike was literally at the rest stop. Although the paved, short, path would be good for kids or tourists at the rest stop, it isn't anything worth the drive if you are looking for a real hike. Still, the lava flows are pretty cool, and if you are looking for something a bit more vigorous (and desolate) with the same idea, try the hike at Hell's Half Acre off of Highway 20.
