From San Diego take I-8 east to Hwy 67 north. Hwy 67 turns into Hwy 78 in Ramona. Keep going east another 34 miles past Julian and down the Banner Grade. Just past Scissors Crossing (SR2) is trailhead. Park on dirt shoulder by highway.

This is an arduous 28 mile hike along the PCT through the San Felipe Hills. Beautiful desert scenery and plenty of critters (snakes, lizards, bighorn sheep, coyotes, hawks) to keep your mind occupied along this mostly dry route.
You must be an advanced hiker to attempt this very remote trail. Bring LOTS of water and the 10 essentials.
Best time of year for this hike is spring/fall. Summer hiking is a killer, literally. So, unless you have extensive desert travelling skills, summer hiking here should not be an option.
Note: there is a maintained water cache about 13 miles into the hike, but, shouldn't be depended upon. Also, near the end of the hike there is a spring (Barrel Spring) that usually is dependable year round.
This can be done as a shuttle hike by leaving a car at Scissors Crossing and at Montezuma Road (33.216712,-116.586854).
