Located in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area and maintained by the US Forest Service, Multnomah Falls is one of the most picturesque waterfalls in the United States. Falling 620 feet from its source on Larch Mountain, the waterfall is accompanied by paved foot paths for moderate day hikes.
A 1.2 mile trail climbs about 600 feet in elevation to the top of the falls. Hikers can then continue upward approx. 6 miles to the top of Larch Mountain, or hike the 6 mile Wahkeena Loop trail, arriving back at the starting point (Multnomah Falls Lodge).
There are numerous trails in the immediate area of Multnomah Falls. The US Forest Service has a map of area hiking trails viewable at http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/columbia/maps/Short_Loops.pdf.
