Seventeen mile cave is 17 miles west of Idaho Falls.

Beginning in Idaho Falls at the intersection of Yellowstone Highway and Broadway (Hwy 20). Drive west seventeen miles. The cave is on the south side of Highway 20. It is marked by an Idaho Highway Historic Site sign that tells about ancient Elephant Hunters. There is a road around a large hole in the ground. The hole is the entrance to the cave.

17 mile cave is a lava tube. It maintains a temperature right about 65 degrees so you'll want a jacket. The cave is mostly wide open the entire way through the cave and you cannot get lost in it.

A lot of local high school kids party at this cave and there is a lot of grafitti.

In the spring the cave can be wet from snow melt so you'll want good boots. An occasional rattle snake has been spotted in the cave, but not very often.

This cave is on private property, but the owner allows people to use the cave. Please respect his property and be nice to the cave so that all can enjoy it.
