Travel East on HWY 26 towards Mt. Hood. Pass through Government Camp and continue on HWY 26 towards Warm Springs/Bend. Just after you enter the Warm Springs Indian Reservation turn left on HWY 216: Maupin & Bear Springs (on your Left, heading East). Once on HWY 216 proceed roughly 30 miles to HWY 197. Turn right onto HWY 197 and travel the 2 miles to Maupin. Just after you cross the bridge spanning the Deschutes River keep right onto Deschutes River Road, and travel 4 miles to Harpham Flats putin

The Lower Deschutes River is a classic pool-drop river (a fun and forgivable river) with many III+ rapids like Wapinita, Boxcar, Surf City, Oak Springs, White River and elevator rapids.
**The key BACKCOUNTRY SECRET to this river is a 1/4 mile below Oak Springs at the confluence with the White River: dock the boat and make the 1/2 mile hike upstream to the Rock Slides. At this location the water cascades down smooth rocks into a churning cauldron of water... be sure to wear your PFD and keep your elbows tucked!
The Deschutes is dam released so the flows are good thru late summer.
