- From Hill City, SD, take 385 south 3 miles to 244.
- Turn left onto Rt. 244 and go 5.9 miles to campground road symbol.
- Turn right at road symbol into campground.

Campground has two loops - one for RVs and tents and the other for tents only. It is located right next to the lake. Mt. Rushmore is only 2 miles away.

Open seasonally. There is a fee to camp here and you are limited to 14 days. There are a total of 36 sites (14 tent only). No hookups. The camping spots have a lot of trees. There are toilets. You can fish in the lake for perch and rainbow trout.

This is a fun place to swim. There are some good cliffs, 30 ft to about 50 ft, for jumping from (be sure to check the water before jumping).

Horsethief lake is a small lake. This is a good spot to take children canoeing or to teach someone how to canoe.
