To get the user submitted directions to Buckhorn State Park please register and login. After you register and login please submit atleast one point. You will have instant access to all of Backcountry Secrets including GPS location files, coordinates and Google Earth KML files.

Plenty of campsites to choose from here. This camp site truly has the backcountry feel to as far as no neighbors. Most sites are reservable.

42 backpack sites. One is accessible for people with disabilities. Most backpack campsites are secluded and near the water. You get to them by foot trail or by boat.
3 group sites accommodate up to 40 people each.
8 family campsites which accommodate tents or hard-sided and pop-up trailers. Each family site has a picnic table and campfire ring.

You have to register at the park office or use the self-registration box in the office parking lot before setting up camp.

There is 2 mile canoe trail designed to assist you in enjoying and learning more about wetlands. The trail begins and ends at the boat launch on the east side. A large map at the launch shows a detailed layout of the trail. There are 10 numbered posts situated along the shoreline that make up the trail.

You can ski the hiking trails. They are relatively flat and a good location for family outings. Four miles of trails are groomed when there is enough snow.

Four miles of trail start from the south picnic area. The trails course through wetlands, oak woods, jack pine thickets, shoreline and a small prairie. One loop of the trail has 10 interpretive signs to help you conduct your own nature hike. From the savanna parking lot you can hike the .75-mile savanna trail, a short segment is accessiible to people with disabilities. Cross the road and follow the .75-mile Pond Trail.

You can snowmobile on designated park roads. No snowmobiles are allowed off-road or on the trails.
