Just below Hoover Dam is where you put in, but because of dam security there are certain measures that must be followed. I'd recommend google-ing companies that offer trips down Black Canyon.

There are good camping areas along the banks of the river. One of the more popular places is Arizona Beach.

One of my favorite canoe trips. The water is green and clear, and there's lots of fun stuff to see, including rain caves, sauna caves, slot canyons, hot springs etc. Don't miss Emerald Cave.
