From San Diego go East to Pine Valley. Exit freeway turn left under bridge. Follow until the road T's. Turn Left. Go about a mile and pass over a bridge. At end of bridge turn an immediate right. (very sharp turn!). Follow Pine Creek Rd 1.5 miles. Trailhead will be on right.

This is an out and back hike with roughly 2000' elevation gain. It is a 22 mile round trip with undependable water sources. So, bring Plenty of water.
I like to do this hike bottom to top so that I can get the hard part over with first.
This hike can also be done as a shuttle hike if you only want to do half the hike (11 miles).
The single track route is easy to follow and depending on the day of the week that you hike, can also be a nice quiet trek.
Weekends can be somewhat crowded so plan accordingly.
Very scenic transitions from scrub/chapparel up to the top where whispering Jeffery Pines await you.
Intermediate hikers should have no problems with this hike. No severe elevation gains or technical obstacles to overcome...it is just looong. But, worth every step taken.
