From San Diego take I-15 north to I-10 east to Orange St exit.(Hwy 38). Go north to Lugonia Ave, turn right. Follow Hwy 38 to MillCreek ranger station to get permit for trail(free. An adventure pass is required so get one at ranger station...it is only 5.00$. Ranger station is on the NE corner of Hwy 38& Bryant St. After getting trail permit follow Hwy 38 again 6.5 miles to Valley of the Falls Dr. Follow Valley of the Falls drive to Vivian Creek trailhead parking lot.

Leave trail head parking lot and follow jeep road east to trailhead...about .5 miles. The first 2 miles of steep trail gains 1800' in about half a mile.(lots of switch -backs).
Vivain Creek Trail is the hardest and shortest trail to Southern California's highest peak, Mt. San Gorgonio (11,499'). It is 16 miles round trip with an elevation gain of 5400'. You MUST be in excellent shape to make this hike. Altitude is the deciding factor...AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) can set in at any time above 9000'. Know your limitations and know when to call it quits if AMS persists.
This is a gruelling 1 day hike but it can be done. And the bragging rights for bagging socal's highest peak can't be underated. The 360* views are astounding from that altitude.

The first 2 miles of steep trail gains 1800' in about half a mile.(lots of switch -backs). Campimg permits required for Vivian Creek Camp (7600') and points higher. Summer time can really get crowded so I recommend late spring/early fall for a quiet time of camping.

There are no points within 15 miles of this point.
