Rainbow State Park gets it's name from the rainbow that appears when the sun is shining on the waterfall mist in the morning.

Camping is first come first served, but there are about 50 total campsites so on most weekends, you'll have no problem finding an open site. Only open for camping in the summer, but you can picnic here year round and it's a good place for picnicking.

One cool part of Rainbow Falls State Park is the fuchsia garden. The Northwest Fuchsia Society maintains 40 varieties of fuchsia there. You can get a flyer that talks about the different varities.

There are several trails at Rainbow Falls State Park that you can hike on. A total of about 7 miles of hiking exists in the park mostly on the South side of the Chehalis River which runs right through the middle of the park. Hiking trails weave in and out of douglas fir and western hemlock.

The Towering Timber self-guided trail is my favorite. The trees on this hike are just amazing. They've got to be over 200 feet tall in places.

It consists of a small waterfall with a nice swimming hole at the bottom. This is an official swimming place in the state park.
